CAPZero-3 X-Capacitor Discharge ICs

Power Integrations CAPZero-3 Energy-Saving X-Capacitor Discharge ICs reduce standby power for appliance applications. The two-terminal CAPZero-3 ICs enable designers to easily meet IEC60335 safety approvals for major appliances and cover all capacitor values from up to 6µF. The IEC60335 is the discharge safety standard for all appliances. To protect the user from an electrical hazard, the voltage across the input X capacitor must discharge to less than 34V within <1s after the AC is removed.

CapZero™ ICs

Power Integrations CapZero™ ICs block current flow in the X capacitor safety discharge resistors when AC voltage is applied, reducing the power loss to less than 5mW, or essentially zero at 230VAC. CapZero ICs automatically discharge X capacitors through discharge resistors when AC is disconnected. They simplify EMI filter design, have only two terminals improving safety standards, have <4mm creepage on package and PCB. CapZero ICs are self-supplied, requiring no external bias, have high common-mode surge immunity, high differential surge withstand, and are EcoSmart®/energy-efficient. The ICs feature simplicity and ruggedness, which makes it an ideal choice in systems designed to meet ErP Lot 6 requirements.
