onsemi FAD1100EVB Driver Evaluation Board
onsemi FAD1100EVB Driver Evaluation Board is a compact, ready-to-use hardware platform designed to evaluate the performance and functionality of the FAD1100 automotive ignition driver IC in realistic ignition-coil applications. The board integrates the FAD1100 device with an FGD3040G2 AECQ-101 qualified ignition IGBT, providing a complete ignition switching stage suitable for coil-on-plug and similar automotive ignition systems. The board integrates all essential passive, sensing, and protection components for fast and accurate evaluation without external circuitry.
The FAD1100EVB enables detailed assessment of key ignition control functions, including programmable maximum dwell time, precise primary current limiting via the VSENSE threshold, and robust input spike filtering for reliable operation in harsh automotive electrical environments. The board also demonstrates the device’s Soft Shut Down (SSD) behavior, which gradually reduces the gate drive to safely discharge the ignition coil without generating an unintended spark during extended dwell or fault conditions.
Designed for safe operation during high-voltage transients at ignition level, the PCB layout incorporates enhanced creepage and clearance distances in accordance with IPC 2221A guidelines. Clearly labeled connectors and accessible oscilloscope test points enable convenient probing of critical signals, including VBAT, VSENSE, OUTPUT, and SSD-related nodes.
The onsemi FAD1100EVB supports a wide range of inductive loads, including air-core inductors and customer-specific ignition transformers within the supported inductance range, making it suitable for both bench evaluation and system-level testing. This evaluation board is intended for design engineers developing or validating automotive ignition systems and serves as a reference design for implementing the FAD1100 in production hardware.
