NXP Semiconductors VR249 Industrial Safety PMICs are high-voltage power management devices for low-power microcontrollers in safety-critical industrial applications. The VR249 supports entry- and mid-range safety microcontrollers, including the MCX-E series, with multiple power supplies, system control, diagnostics, and low-power operation. The PMICs support energy storage, power delivery, gateways, factory automation, and other industrial safety applications requiring high grades of Industrial Safety Integrity Level (SIL) coverage up to SIL 2.
The NXP VR249 PMICs integrate a VPRE synchronous buck converter, a VCORE synchronous buck converter, a VBST asynchronous boost controller, two LDO regulators, a VREF high-precision reference voltage, and up to two tracking regulators. The devices also incorporate wake-up inputs, programmable GPIOs, a long-duration timer, voltage monitoring via an analog multiplexer, and device control through a 32-bit SPI interface with CRC. Functional safety support includes independent monitoring circuitry, watchdog functions, ABIST, LBIST, and safety outputs with latent fault detection mechanisms.
