NXP Semiconductors Kinetis KL8x Ultra-Low Power MCUs

NXP Semiconductors Kinetis KL8x Ultra-Low Power Microcontrollers offer enhanced security to support point-of-sale (POS) and Internet of Things (IoT) applications. The Kinetis KL8x MCUs feature a 72MHz Arm® Cortex®-M0+ core with 128KB flash memory and 96KB SRAM. An integrated QuadSPI interface supports connections to non-volatile memory (serial NOR). The microcontrollers consume as little as 125µA/MHz in run mode. In sleep mode, the devices operate down to 272nA with RAM and RTC retained. Enhanced security features include true random number generator, tamper detection, and low-power trusted crypto engine supporting 3DES, AES, DES, SHA, RSA, and ECC.

The MCUs provide symmetric cryptographic acceleration and full-speed USB 2.0 On-The-Go (OTG), including options for crystal-less device functionality. With minimal CPU intervention, the crystal-less USB OTG controller, 16-bit ADC, and multiple serial communication interfaces function autonomously in low-power modes. The hardware asymmetric cryptography offers high-speed, code- and power-efficient data authentication with support for encryption protocols. With high performance, ultra-low power operation, and encryption/tamper detection features, the KL8x MCUs can support more power-restricted POS payment applications. These power-restricted payment options include smartphone and tablet attach readers and payment methods embedded in wearable technology.
